Book Review: Love is You and Me-Monica Sheenan

Love... it's a wonderful thing for you and me .  It makes the skies ever blue, just being happy times two. It can be sweet or grand, or just simply holding one's hand.  It is fun and free and let you be who you want to be. The greatest gift of all,  we'll stick together, though and through because.. love is you and me.

A very sweet and simple book,  author/illustrator  Sheenan shows us  that love is a great feeling, be it between a parent and a child or best friends, even a dog and a mouse. Perfect for Valentine's Day, bedtime, any time.

Book Review: Catching Kisses-Amy Gibson

Right now, someone, somewhere, is blowing a kiss. And someone, somewhere is waiting to catch it.

Kisses can be soft as whispers or cherry blossoms from DC. They can come from  the busy big cities of New York or sunny Florida beaches. They come through all types of weather, even be small enough to hide in a book and smell like ginger and fresh bread. But wherever they go, and wherever they land, once it is caught, it is yours forever.

Filled with bright colors and retro-looking silhouettes of familiar landmarks ( plus a map to helpfully show  young readers where the kisses are going), Catching Kisses is a perfect book for Valentine's Day ( or any kind of day).

Storytime for 2 and 3 yr olds- Valentine Party Day!

glitter-graphics.com

Today we had a Valentine Party Day! We listened to Penguin and the Cupcake by Ashley Spires and Love is You and Me by Monica Sheenan. We also looked at hearts and other shapes, celebrated everyone's birthday ( because we can) and decorated a cupcake coloring sheet with hearts and stickers (and thankfully, no glitter. I had it on the demo, but since we are in one of the other meeting rooms till April, I did not want to leave a trail of red glitter.) The kids also got Dora valentines and a Rice Krispe treat.

Here are some of the songs we did today-

Book review: When It Snows- Richard Collingridge

One magical snowy night, a young boy and his teddy bear journey to a faraway land. They see snowman built as high as the sky , fairies in a dark and gloomy forest ruled by the Queen of the Poles, and elves helping giant reindeer and Santa get ready for his big night.

This is a wonderful picture book, with a very surprising ending. I love the author/illustrator's use of shadow and light to create a land that is both magical and haunting (and makes me really want to go there). It reminds me of The Polar Express ( possibly better because the language and short and sweet, so might be using this next November/ December.) A perfect read for cold winter nights.

Book Review-Baby Bear-Kadir Nelson

One night, a baby bear loses his way home. So he seeks help from every animal, from the funny-looking squirrels to the mighty moose and ram. Each offers a piece of advice: the mountain lion tells him to retrace his steps, the moose tells him to listen to his heart, the wise owl tells him he is not alone, all are watching out for him. With each piece of advice, Baby Bear slowly gains courage and confidence to find his way home.

A lovely, simple tale about believing in one's self and truly feeling at home, Baby Bear is filled with vivid, softly brushed oil paintings of animals in nature. Even the most intimidating  animals, like the mountain lion and the moose, look  very gentle and reassuring. I especially love the close-up scene of Baby Bear's eyes looking at the moon and thinking of home. A perfect book to snuggle up to at bedtime!
